General Manager of CITIC Metal Group Sun Yufeng Called on President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Tshisekedi

On April 6, 2019, Sun Yufeng, general manager of CITIC Metal Group & co-chairman of Ivanhoe Mines, together with Robert Friedland, executive co-chairman of Ivanhoe Mines, called on newly elected president of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Félix Tshisekedi, who was on a visit to the United States.
 
The general manager Sun Yufeng and the co-chairman Friedland first of all thanked the president Tshisekedi for his warm reception during his busy schedule, briefed his Excellency on the development history and comprehensive strength of CITIC Group, as well as the latest progress of Ivanhoe Mines’s Kamoa-Kahula copper project and Kipushi zinc-copper project located in the DRC, and expressed the desire to establish and consolidate a strong partnership with the new government of the DRC.
 
The president Tshisekedi expressed full recognition and support for the mining investment activities of CITIC Metal and Ivanhoe Mines in the DRC. He pointed out that the current period is a historical period of opportunity for the development of the mining industry in the DRC. He hoped that CITIC Metal and Ivanhoe Mines could further expand investment and development efforts to better promote the landing and production of the two world-class projects, the Kamoa-Kakula copper mine and the Kipushi zinc-copper mine.
 
Meanwhile, his Excellency also looked forward to deepening cooperation with CITIC Group, and warmly invited senior management of CITIC Group to visit the DRC at an appropriate opportunity to further discuss the prospects of multi-field cooperation, so as to help promote the economic transformation of the DRC.
 
They were accompanied by Ms. Lily Thsimpumpu, director of government relations of the DRC, Mr.EgizioBianchini, executive vice president of Ivanhoe Mines, Mr. Matthieu Bos and Mr. Zhou Chao, vice presidents of Ivanhoe Mines, together with other executives.
